Sculpting Creativity, Building Community: The Concrete Rose Project and KAOS Present Christmas Sculpting Classes 2026

Five Saturdays. One Creative Journey. A Holiday Season Filled with Art, Inspiration, and Community.
November 14 through December 12, 2026 | Leimert Park, Los Angeles, California
Art has the extraordinary ability to bring people together, preserve stories, and inspire possibilities. This holiday season, The Concrete Rose Project, Inc. (TCRP), in collaboration with KAOS, is bringing that spirit to life through Sculpting Classes for Christmas 2026, a five-week, hands-on arts program designed to introduce participants ages 8 to 99 to the creative world of sculpture.
Led by professional sculptor and teaching artist WanJean, the program offers participants an opportunity to explore their artistic abilities, learn fundamental sculpting techniques, and create meaningful works of art in a welcoming community environment.
More than a traditional art class, this initiative represents the heart of The Concrete Rose Project's mission: Preserving Extraordinary Lives Through Art. Inspiring Futures.
Meet the Artist: WanJean
With more than 40 years of artistic experience, WanJean has dedicated her creative journey to bringing stories, history, and human experiences to life through sculpture.
Her body of work reflects an appreciation for cultural heritage, historical preservation, and the power of artistic expression. Through her distinctive approach to sculpting, WanJean transforms ordinary materials into works that invite reflection, conversation, and connection.
Her creations include The Walk, a sculpture-on-canvas tribute depicting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, and The OG Lady Liberty, a symbolic exploration of freedom, resilience, and the enduring human spirit.
For WanJean, art is more than creating something beautiful. It is about telling stories that deserve to be remembered.
Now, through this special holiday collaboration with KAOS, she is sharing her knowledge and experience with aspiring artists of all ages.
"Every sculpture begins with an idea, but what makes it meaningful is the story behind it."
That philosophy is at the center of this holiday program.
Five Weeks of Discovery, Creativity, and Artistic Expression
Beginning Saturday, November 14, 2026, participants will embark on a five-week artistic journey, progressing from basic sculpting techniques to the completion of their own personal holiday-inspired sculpture.
Each approximately two-hour class is designed to be approachable for beginners while encouraging creativity, patience, confidence, and individual expression.
Our Five-Week Creative Journey
Week 1: November 14 | Discovering Sculpture
Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of sculpture, including working with clay, understanding shapes, and exploring how three-dimensional art is created.
Week 2: November 21 | Sculpting Holiday Characters
Students begin developing their own holiday-themed creations, using imagination and basic sculpting techniques to bring characters and ideas to life.
Week 3: November 28 | Texture and Details
Participants discover how texture, patterns, and small details can transform a simple sculpture into a distinctive work of art.
Week 4: December 5 | Painting and Personalizing
Students explore painting techniques, color combinations, and finishing details to give their sculptures personality and visual character.
Week 5: December 12 | Christmas Sculpture Showcase
The program concludes with a special holiday showcase celebrating participants' creativity, artistic growth, and completed sculptures.
Each participant is also planned to receive a Christmas gift bag as part of the celebration.
Art Is for Everyone: Ages 8 to 99
One of the most meaningful aspects of Sculpting Classes for Christmas 2026 is its inclusive approach.
Creativity has no age limit.
Whether someone is discovering sculpture for the first time at age eight or exploring a lifelong artistic interest at age eighty, this program welcomes people at different stages of their creative journeys.
Through hands-on instruction and encouragement, participants will have opportunities to:
Learn fundamental sculpting techniques.
Develop patience, focus, and creative problem-solving skills.
Explore artistic expression through clay and color.
Build confidence in their creative abilities.
Complete a personal sculpture to celebrate and share.
Connect with others through a shared appreciation of art.
The program is designed to encourage discovery rather than perfection, helping participants recognize the value of their own artistic voices.
A Community Collaboration with KAOS
The Concrete Rose Project is proud to collaborate with KAOS, bringing together artistic instruction and a community-centered creative environment.
Located in the culturally significant Leimert Park area of Los Angeles, the classes will provide an opportunity for participants to engage with sculpture in a setting connected to the city's rich artistic heritage.
Leimert Park has long been recognized for its contributions to African American art, music, literature, and cultural expression.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to creativity, community engagement, and making artistic experiences more accessible.
Help Us Bring This Holiday Experience to Life
Great art begins with imagination. But imagination needs materials to take shape.
To help make Sculpting Classes for Christmas 2026 possible, The Concrete Rose Project is inviting family members, friends, local businesses, community partners, and arts supporters to contribute toward the materials required for the five-week program.
Donations will help provide:
Clay: The essential material participants will use to create their sculptures.
Sculpting tools: Tools for shaping, carving, and adding details.
Paints and brushes: Supplies to personalize and finish each creation.
Classroom supplies: Additional materials needed for hands-on instruction.
Christmas gift bags: Holiday gifts to celebrate participating artists.
Every contribution, large or small, helps move this community arts initiative closer to its goals.
Individuals and organizations interested in sponsoring supplies, donating materials, or supporting the program financially are encouraged to contact The Concrete Rose Project.
Your Support Can Make a Difference
A contribution of $10, $25, $50, or any amount can help provide essential materials for the program.
Businesses and community organizations are also invited to inquire about opportunities to support the classes through sponsorships or in-kind donations.
By supporting this initiative, donors are investing in more than art supplies. They are helping create opportunities for learning, self-expression, community connection, and artistic discovery.
